For D-103 & LT-104 Tree-Marking Guns
Refer to the parts diagram or Parts & Price List for assistance.

Q: My trigger is very difficult to pull.
A: If the trigger does not move or is suddenly very difficult to pull, it is likely that the reversible nozzle is plugged. Reverse the nozzle and pull the trigger; the gun should unplug by hydraulic action. The HW-410 Cap Assembly should be screwed onto the nozzle whenever the gun is not in use since the wire insert in the cap is a further safeguard against plugging. The wire can be used to dislodge dried paint or other tight foreign matter. The threaded cap holder on the gun is for storing the cap assembly while the gun is in use.

Q: Very little paint is coming out of my gun.
A: If very little or no paint comes out of the gun, inspect the HW-411 Intake Valve to see that the SS-1552 Steel Ball can move freely and seats properly in the hole at the base of the Intake Valve. (See next paragraph for directions on how to change parts in the HW-49 Cylinder.) If the gun has not been used for some time, the HW-47 Cup Leathers may have dried out. Often this can be corrected by squirting lubricating oil into the hole at the top of the cylinder and through the Intake Valve. Pull the trigger several times to work lubricating oil into the leathers. Badly worn, nicked or extremely hard Cup Leathers should be replaced.

Q: How do I replace my cylinder parts?
A: To replace parts within the cylinder, work with the cylinder upside down. Remove the Intake Valve (an adjustable wrench may be needed). Pull out the SS-595 Cotter Pin to release tension on the A-26-A Spring. Separate the HW-50 Lower Piston Rod from the HW-414 Upper Piston Rod with pliers. Remove the cylinder from the HW-39 Fluid Tube, saving the steel ball. Hold the Lower Piston Rod and, with your other hand, loosen the SS-700 Hex Nut with an 11/32" socket or 1&Mac218;4" wrench. Change any bad parts and re-assemble according to the illustration. Oil the A-26-A Spring and Intake Valve with WD40 oil, allowing oil to drip down through the top of the cylinder.

Q: How do I replace the Cup Leathers?
A: To replace the Cup Leathers, grasp the curled portion of the Upper Piston Rod and unscrew the Lower Piston Rod. The Lower Piston Rod, complete with Cup Leathers, can be removed from the Cylinder. Re-install new or reconditioned Cup Leathers. Cup Leathers should be soft and pliable and flared to assure contact with the walls of the cylinder. Soaking in lubricating oil assures softness. Utmost care should be exercised in replacing this assembly, the first Cupped (upright) Leather to enter the Cylinder needs to be tucked in completely and smoothly so that the Cup remains completely upright in the Cylinder and does not fold or curl.

Q: How do I replace the HW-26 Intake Valve Spring?
A: A broken HW-26 Intake Valve Spring can be replaced after unscrewing the Intake Valve from the Cylinder. Insert the small end of the Intake Valve Spring against the Steel Ball and turn the Intake Valve Spring until the large end is completely under the shoulder of the intake valve.

Q: What do I do if my gun is leaking paint through the handle?
A: If the gun leaks an excessive amount of paint through the handle, check the SS-2666 O-Ring and SS-9837 Retainer which should hold the HW-413 Spacer Disc tightly against the Gun Body. Make sure there is a HW-19 (or N-202LT) Gasket in the Gun Body. For D-103 Models, make sure that the Adapter is tight. To replace the O-Ring, unscrew the Lower Piston Rod as described above in "How do I replace my Cylinder parts?" but do not remove the Cup Leathers from the Cylinder if it is not necessary to soften or replace them. Unscrew the Cylinder from the HW-39 (or HW-39LT) Fluid Tube. Slide off the Fluid Tube, replace the O-Ring and Retainer and reassemble the Cylinder and Piston Rod.

Q: What do I do if my gun is leaking paint out of the HW-51 Tube?
A: If the gun leaks between the HW-51 Tube and the Gun Body, the SS-7312 Gasket is most likely damaged or missing. Do not attempt to stop the leakage by over-tightening as this can strip the threads in the Gun Body. If you install a new Gasket, place the copper side of the gasket against the body with the black side facing out.
